Mystic Seaport Exhibition
There is a great deal of interest in what makes a boat seaworthy, and for good reason. Nobody wants to sail off into the sunset in a boat that is not capable of handling the water ways and harsh weather likely to be met during the voyage. However, there is also a great deal of debate about what makes a boat seaworthy. Is it all a matter of hull design? Of size? If intended use is important, is there one design that stands above the rest when it comes to transporting cargo, fishing, cruising, watersports, entertaining, or sailing around the world—or even all six at once? What role, if any, do the humans on board play?
Combined with unexpected physical features and digital technologies—including a visible boatbuilding workshop, and AR and VR experiences—the exhibit’s dense installation seeks to inspire lively conversations, surprising connections, and wonder.
